Ron Magril

Ron Magril (born November 30th, 1997) is a rising jazz guitarist and composer from Tel Aviv, Israel.

He is performing regularly as a leader and as a sideman with leading Israeli artists, having played at “Beit Ha’ammudim Jazz club”, “The Red Sea Jazz Festival” and “Heichal Hatarbut Tel Aviv” among other great venues.

He started his musical journey at a young age, with his classical violinist grandfather teaching him to play the violin, he then fell in love with the guitar, and studied at Israel’s top jazz schools. Ron was awarded a scholarship from the “New school” in New York (2019), the AICF (2018-2020) and ‘Ran Baron’ excellence scholarships (2016). These days Ron is being supported by the Israel’s Ministry of culture and sports. He received this support in order to encourage him to play his
music internationally.

Ron’s sound is inspired by the Hard Bop of the 1950’s and 1960’s. His music and playing attempt to recreate the vibe and the sound of this genre, while evolving modern concepts and sounds into a compilation of old and new.

As a leader, Ron released his debut album “Until Now” on the British jazz label “Ubuntu Music” (2022). The album features original music that inspired by the sound of the Hard Bop of the 1950’s and 1960’s. The band features Ron Magril on Guitar and Compositions, Yonatan Riklis on Piano, Oren Hardy on Contrabass and Ofri Nehemya on Drums.

The album has received major coverage from the British and Israeli press –

“You can’t help but respect Magril for his classic diction and clarity of tone. This is a man whose art does the talking, not his pedal rack” (Jazzwise July 2022 issue)

“This record sounds like it could have been recorded in the mid 50s or 60s but still comes over as fresh and contemporary…and it swings. Magril is a fine player with a warm classic jazz guitar tone and an ear for an strong melody” (London Jazz News)

“there is much to be enjoyed and admired in the sophisticated and precise
playing.” (Bebop Spoken Here)

“The young guitarist and composer’s debut album managed to recreate the sound of Jazz from the 50s and 60s while adding it a modern interpretation. Melodic and pleasant to the ear but does not give up on complexity and depth with melodies and arrangements. Suitable for any time of the day and you always discover something new“ (Ha’aretz – Israel)

“This one of the best albums I have heard “ (Columbus – Israel)
